Recommended Reading

Students!

I'd like for you to have a look at a couple readings. They are both fairly short, but important and relevant to what we're doing in class, especially after having watched the film Helvetica and having started on a meaty project that involves lots of type!

Beatrice Warde's essay The Crystal Goblet (which, incidentally, was referenced in Helvetica by Tobias Frere-Jones and Jonathan Hoefler)

Philip Meggs' article The Obscene Typography Machine

Please craft one of your blog posts around your thoughts on type based on (what you've seen of) the film, these writings, and your personal experience thus far working with it.

  1. I thought this article was a pretty interesting read. There's 30 new typeface fonts that are available. http://thenextweb.com/dd/2012/09/17/30-brand-new-typefaces-released-last-month-need-know-september/

I stumbled upon this app while I was reading articles on my Flipboard app.
