Ideabook.com Tutorials: Page Layout and Much More!

This great website that has some tutorials that encapsulate a lot of what I've been trying to impart to you about creating pleasing, easy to read layouts. This link takes you directly to the list of tuts that deal specifically with page layouts – even the first one about making a form has some good points that you can apply to other formats.

You wouldn't do badly to spend some time looking through the whole catalog of tutorials at the site. The Design Palettes posts, for example, take a look at how the choice you make for the various elements of your piece (type, color, image, etc.) can create a particular mood and communicate a message.

Of course the section on Print Design holds all kinds of relevance to our studies this semester. Marketing might be of interest, too – and there is a post about brochures, which we'll be exploring in the last project.

In the Technology section, there is but one entry about file formats that's worth having a look at. It goes into the differences between bitmap and vector images, and has a bit of a review about resolution, too. Finally, you wouldn't expect me to leave out mention of the Typography section? To me, type can make or break a design, and you can't know enough about it.

I hope you'll spend some time on this site – it has a lot to offer!
